RIB Sea Safaris and Power Boat Trips from Rock out towards Newquay or Bude with Cornish Sea Tours.
Launching from Rock pontoon, across the river from Padstow on the Camel Estuary, we explore the incredibly beautiful coastline and islands of North Cornwall normally completely inaccessible to the visitor. Our boat is a 6.3m RIB called Mor Cannow (Cornish for Sea Song). RIBS are often referred to as the 4x4s of the sea, perfect for exploring the Islands, caves and headlands of the North coast. Our boat trips are mostly focussed on exploring the coastline and discovering Cornwall’s rich marine wildlife. Matthew your skipper is a trained Zoologist and keen naturalist who has walked, kayaked and coasteered this piece of coast for several years. Armed with binoculars you can expect (depending on the time of year) to see Basking Sharks, Seals, Dolphins, Porpoises, Puffins, Gannets and many other varieties of seabirds.
Heading out from Rock the boat crosses Hayle Bay (Polzeath) then around the stunning Pentire Headland. We pass under the looming 300ft laval cliffs of Pentire then head towards the Iron-age hill forts of The Rumps. Hugging the sheltered reefs here we often see seals. In May/June Moule Island just off Pentire Head is also host to a colony of Puffins which can be observed in flight, in the water and occasionally feeding their young in their burrows.
The Rumps Tour costs £40 per adult and £30 per child under 14. The tours run for approximately 2 hours and lifejackets are provided. We do recommend bringing a warm layer, a waterproof jacket and sun cream.
From Rock we head out of the estuary and West around Stepper Point to the Butter Hole and then straight offshore to Gulland Rock. Gulland is a large Island which the local Seals use as a nursery, here you’ll almost certainly see these inquisitive beautiful creatures. We finish the trip by a visit to Trevose lighthouse and the impressive Padstow Lifeboat facility at Mother Iveys Bay.
The Gulland Tour costs £40 per adult and £30 per child under 14. The tours run for approximately 2 hours and lifejackets are provided. We do recommend bringing a warm layer, a waterproof jacket and sun cream.
Again launching from Rock we head out East past Pentire where we’ll pass the beautiful undisturbed beaches and coves of Compit, Ephaven and Lundy. We encounter many varieties of sea bird along this stretch, Peregrine Falcons also nest here and can on occasion be seen hunting around the cliffs. We can then take the boat right inside the tiny natural fishing port of Port Quin, with its charming fisherman’s cottages, folly castle and ancient fish cellars. On the return journey we often come across pods of dolphins and occasionally porpoises.
The Port Gaverne Tour costs £40 per adult and £30 per child under 14. The tours run for approximately 2 hours and lifejackets are provided. We do recommend bringing a warm layer, a waterproof jacket and sun cream.
